If my recipe makes enough batter to make a bundt cake, how many mini loaves can I make instead?

  • 1.

What would be an estimate of too many loaves?

  • 2.

What would be an estimate of too few loaves?

Act Two

  • 3.

What is the volume of the bundt pan?

  • 4.

What is the volume of the mini loaf? The dimensions of the mini loaf pan are 7 in * 2.5 in * 1.8 in. The pan should be filled 3/4 full.

  • 5.

How do I convert from space measurement to weight measurements? How can you convert from cubic inches to ounces and ounces to cups?

  • Teacher note
Students need to remember that the batter fills the bundt pan only half way to leave room for the cake to rise. This means there is about 6 cups of batter.

The mini loaf holds 2 cups when filled to the top. To fill the pan 3/4 full, students need to multiply 2 by 3/4 to get 1 1/2 cups per loaf.

They then need to divide 6 by 1 1/2 to get 4 loaves.
