Which drink will have the strongest caffeine concentration?

  • 1.

Can you rank all the drinks from strongest concentration to weakest?

Act Two

  • 2.

What information is important to know here?

  • 3.

When we talk about "concentration," what kind of units are we using? Miles, degrees, liters? What?

  • ImageName of each drink
  • ImageMilligrams of caffeine in each drink
  • ImageThe volume of each drink
  • Teacher note
You can feel free to just give students the name of the drinks and let them research the other information themselves. It will increase the amount of time the task takes, of course.

Act Three

  • VideoAnswer: Five-Hour Energy
  • Teacher note
As you summarize different answers, be sure to define "rate" as something per one unit. Emphasize the difficulty of comparing the different ratios (ie. 184 mg per 18.6 ounces vs 80 mg per 8.4 oz) and the relative ease of comparing rates.

  • 4.

Which drink gives you the highest concentration of caffeine for the amount of money it costs?

  • 5.

What kind of unit helps you answer that question? Miles? Degrees? Liters? What?

  • ImageThe cost of each drink
